South Wales Miners Museum
South Wales Miners Museum was officially opened in 1976 and was one of the first coal mining Museums in Wales. The Museum is located within the beautiful Afan Valley six miles from the town of Port Talbot and is one of the many attractions to be found within the Afan Forest Park.
Visitors to the South Wales Miners Museum will find yourselves being taken on a historical journey back in time. Our knowledgeable guides, or handheld audio tours will take you through the working life of a South Wales miner, and the hardship that both adults and children of the time would endure. The museum consists of both our detailed indoor “underground tour” and outdoor exhibits, which include a Blacksmith’s Shop, Lamp Room and Engine House with a working, scale model steam train! All admission charges and donations go directly towards the running and maintenance of the museum. Join us here, in the beautiful Afan Country Park, and explore the fascinating industrial and social heritage of the South Wales valleys.
